Who We Are
South Texas Heat Christian is a family–based, Christ–centered distance team serving home–educated and private–school athletes in the San Antonio area. Our mission is to develop spiritual character, mental resilience, and physical excellence through competitive cross country and distance track, providing athletes with a high–level training environment grounded in Christian values
The Latta Sisters
Our varsity girls are led by the Latta sisters—Addyson, Elin, Iris, Remy, and Reese—who collectively form one of the strongest distance cores in the nation. Featured nationally for their unique “whole lotta Lattas” story, these five sisters train, travel, and race together, balancing elite performance with humility, faith, and a genuine love for the sport.

League, Sanctioning, and Competition
We compete in the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL) and are fully affiliated with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), allowing our athletes to race against charter, private, homeschool, and out–of–state programs. Our schedule includes top–tier invitationals such as the Texas A&M Invitational, Nike South XC Invitational, Texas Relays, SA Patriots Invitational, VA Showcase, Carolina Distance Carnival, Great American Cross-Country Festival and other national–caliber championship meets across the country to include New Balance Indoor and Outdoor Nationals.
Nationally Ranked Program
South Texas Heat Christian has earned recognition as one of the premier homeschool and Christian distance programs in the United States, producing nationally ranked performances in the mile, 1600, 3200, 2–mile, and 5K. The team’s results can be found on Athletic.net and Texas MileSplit, where multiple athletes meet MileSplit US elite standards and appear on national and state leaderboards each season.
Championship Tradition
South Texas Heat Christian has captured Texas Homeschool State Cross Country Championship titles, highlighted by a dominant 1–2–3–5–14 finish from the Latta sisters in the girls varsity race, scoring 23 points and securing the team title. On the track, our athletes have claimed state championships and US–standard elite marks, including sub–5:00 1600s and nationally competitive 3200 and 2–mile performances.
Athlete Highlights
Elin Latta is a Nike Cross Nationals qualifier and one of the top high school distance runners in the country, with national–level personal bests in the mile and 2–mile and elite performances at meets such as the HOKA Festival of Miles and Brooks PR Invitational. She is currently the Texas state mile record holder, further lowering it during the 2026 season.
Iris, Remy, Reese, and Addyson Latta add depth across the 1600, 3200, and 5K, routinely placing near the front of major invitational fields and contributing crucial low sticks to every championship lineup.
Iris and Remy Latta are often found in the National rankings, while all the Latta girls are in the Texas rankings
Training Environment
We offer coach–directed practices at locations around San Antonio, with structured at–home running plans on non–practice days to support consistent, progressive development. Our training emphasizes intelligent mileage, race–specific work, strength and mobility, and race–day strategy, helping athletes grow from local competitors into state and national–class performers. We also spend some time at altitude during off-school and off-season times as well as during summer.
